In House Manufacturing at Farmsense

Farmsense was founded in 1991 to supply British farmers with nutritional alternatives to traditional antibiotics. The wellknown and often over used term “prevention is better than cure” has never rung more true than today.

In House Manufacturing

In the early days we outsourced all our manufacturing, but we always had a long-term plan to manufacture our products in-house. All too often companies are being advised to outsource their manufacturing requirements. We have done the opposite and have no doubt that it pays off.

Our first product Ovicol®, was introduced in 1992 but even that was manufactured by a third party until 1999. Slowly, due to the limited facilities at our original site in Freckleton, Lancashire, we started to manufacture more and more but in 2003 our capability dramatically increased following our move to a purpose built facility at Dock Road, Lytham. As a result we were able to increase the number and range of products we could manufacture.

Our manufacturing capability was further improved in 2007 when we moved to a 4-acre site in Lytham, St Annes. This move meant we were now able manufacture; powders, liquids, pastes, and gels all under one roof.

The two main reasons we chose to manufacture in-house are flexibility and quality control. Due to us having our own inhouse team we can work to meet demand and this means we are never out of stock.

Many of our customers are small farms and cannot or do not want to buy in huge quantities. Manufacturing our products on-site means we have the flexibility to deliver smaller orders free of charge direct to farm the very next day.

Quality Control

Quality control is equally important to us, as we pride ourselves in having the best products on the market and by producing these ourselves we control the manufacturing process from start to finish.

Nutraceuticals is a particularly difficult market as many of the novel ingredients vary widely in quality. As with everything, finding trustworthy and reliable suppliers is critical and after more than two decades of extensive screening, we have cemented great relationships with trusted suppliers. As an extra measure, we also have the ability to test incoming raw materials and final products in-house, ensuring we are able to monitor the entire production process.

We pride ourselves on having industry leading quality standards to ensure the highest quality of our products. These stringent standard operating procedures affect everything from raw material purchasing to finished product testing. All this plays a part in ensuring you receive the best possible products, delivered on farm for your convenience, at no extra cost!
