About Us

About Us

Farmsense was founded in 1991 to supply British farmers with nutritional alternatives to traditional antibiotics. The well-known and often over used term “prevention is better than cure” has never rung more true than today.

However, in 1991 we were pioneers in the business, considered very “niche” and given little hope of survival. Today, as the founding business we are part of the Tangerine Group headquartered in Lytham, Lancashire with two manufacturing plants in Lancashire and Herefordshire. Farmsense has contributed significantly to the growth of the Group which today is one of the fastest growing privately owned businesses in its sector. With companies in the veterinary, equine and agricultural sectors the group’s diversity is its strength and this is particularly pertinent when considering the volatility of today’s agricultural sector.

We would like to thank all of our customers both old and new for their support that makes us what we are today.

Background

1991
Early Years
When Farmsense first started in 1991, we were in the main, a distributor of other people’s products. Our first product OVICOL® was introduced in 1992 but even that was manufactured by a third party until 1999.
1991
2003
Early Growth
Slowly, due to the limited facilities at our original site in Freckleton, Lancashire, we started to manufacture more and more but in 2003 our capability dramatically increased following our move to a purpose built facility at Dock Road, Lytham. As a result we were able to increase the number and range of products we could manufacture and more and more products were introduced into our ranges.
2003
2007
Rapid Growth
Our manufacturing capability was further improved in 2007 when we moved to a 4-acre site in Lytham, St Annes. This move meant we were now able to manufacture; powders, liquids, pastes and gels all under one roof.
2007
Current Day
Committed to Manufacturing in the UK
We are often asked, in this day and age of outsourcing, why would we want to manufacture all these products ourselves? Is it that much cheaper to produce in-house with all the associated overheads, health and safety, staffing issues and investment in equipment? The answer is no, but that is not the reason we do it. The two main reasons for manufacturing in-house are flexibility and quality control. With our own team we can work to meet demand and this means we are NEVER out of stock. Quality control is equally important, as we pride ourselves in having the best on the market and by producing in-house we control the manufacturing process from start to finish.
